Comptine D'un Autre Eté

I have no idea how i found this beautiful song (most likely due to my endless plays of youtube videos) but it is just a delight to listen to. Although he describes himself as not being a composer, the music style of Yann Tiersen in this lovely piano piece is beautiful; comptine d'un autre été has a delicate melody which evokes the connotation of dreams yet there is an underlying sense of sadness that accompanies every note. I am currently learning this piece at the moment as well as a few other compositions from the Amelie soundtrack, of which Yann wrote entirely. Sur Le Fil is also another lovely piano piece.

"la musique de Yann, je l'ai decouverte a un concert.
La, il est  arrive discret mais, tout de suite, son univers si suprenant de force, de rire, de poesie, de tourment aussi, m'a bouleversee...
Sa musique m'a fait l'effet d'un journal si intime qu'elle nous evoque des moments de vie, des images, de odeurs...
Elle m'a surtout touchee profondement"

Douglas and Eddie

Both are British. Both have modelled for Burberry. Both have starred in period dramas. Douglas Booth and Eddie Redmayne are the latest gorgeous faces representing British talent today.
Douglas
Mr Booth first caught  my attention after the three part series of Great Expectations that was shown during the Christmas period. I, like many other females, was in complete adoration over Douglas whilst watching him play Pip mainly because of his beautiful blue eyes and lovely well-mannered accent. I had also recognised the actor / model  from the soon to be released film 'LOL' which i'm sure that i will only go to see because my future husband is in it. He's just so beautiful.

Eddie
I was first captivated by Eddie Redmayne when i saw his performance in My Week With Marilyn. His adorable portrayal of Colin Clark, a short term love interest of Marilyn, was so lovely to watch as i became lost in his freckle-flecked face and green eyes. I was very much excited when i saw an advertisement on the television this week about an upcoming British drama called Birdsong starring the actor; he appears to belong perfectly in a soldiers uniform, playing another character that you can't help but love. I shall be watching Eddie give, what i'm sure will be, another heart felt performance tonight at 9pm on BBC1, yay for British drama...and the men in them.

So these are my fangirl-worthy men of the moment, i just wanted to showcase their beautifulness to the world. Do you adore Douglas Booth and Eddie Redmayne as much as i do? Or is there another person that i should know about to add to my list?

Seize The Day

"Seize The Day" was the caption that accompanied this video on the twitter page of Ellie Goulding a few days ago. It was the perfect message to go with this very empowering video that just makes you want to do everything and say everything that you have not yet managed to.

(500) Days of Summer

A much overdue post about the lovely film that is (500) Days of Summer that i had wanted to see since it was released more than two years ago. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel who have the most adorable on screen chemistry, it really makes this film that much more lovable. As music plays a rather important role in the film, the characters of Summer and Tom bond over their love of The Smiths, i thought it was only necessary to write about the soundtrack.

A Story Of Boy Meets Girl Mychael Danna and Rob Simonsen
Us Regina Spektor
There's A Light That Never Goes Out The Smiths
Bad Kids Black Lips
There Goes The Fear Doves
You Make My Dreams Hall & Oates
Sweet Disposition The Temper Trap
Quelqu'un M'a Dit Carla Bruni
Mushaboom Feist
Hero Regina Spektor
Bookends Simon and Garfunkel
Vagabond Wolfmother
She's Got You High Mumm-ra
Here Comes Your Man Meaghan Smith
Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want The Smiths

This musical piece that accompanies the film is, as a whole, just a perfect reflection of Summer and Tom and their situation. I love the more alternative style of songs chosen with unique singers that evoke lyrics filled with cutesy phrases and that just reminds the audience of how adorable Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in his sweater vest.

One of the most highly rated tracks on the soundtrack, in my opinion, is Us by Regina Spektor. The fast paced beating of the piano notes along with the heavenly voice of Regina is wonderful, especially when she emphasises the vibrato style singing in the chorus. Equally, the lyrics and their meaning are just as perfect; i love the lines "they made a statue of us and it put it on a mountain top" as if people are putting you on a pedestal and are pushing you to live up to those expectations. She's certainly a wonderful artist, almost a quirkier Sara Bariellis, they both write beautiful lyrics with a gorgeous piano accompaniment.

Adding an element of old school, the incorporation of the feel good Hall and Oates track You Make My Dreams from the early 80's is great for a classic boogy song. It's even better whilst watching the film to see Tom dancing a musical number...i just love him even more. From a popular song, to bringing back the 80's and even crossing the Atlantic to incorporate a romantic French love song, the (500) Days of Summer soundtrack has really captured every aspect of music. Just a wonderful soundtrack that automatically relates to the adorable character of Tom and his unrequited love for his dream girl Summer Fin, (everybody now) awwwwhhh.

"(500) Days of Summer is not a love story. It is a story of boy meets girl"

Rewind: The Letter

Taking you all the way back to 1967, have a listen to The Letter performed by The Box Tops.

I first heard this song covered in an episode of Hellcats by the gorgeous Aly Michalka and instantly adored the meaning of the words and the swooning melody. However, i had not pursued the original version until i watched the 1960's film 'The Boat That Rocked' and discovered this beauty of a song. I am in adoration over the gravelly voice of the lead singer Alex Chilton; it's so endeering and has such a unique quality to it. Such a classic song.

Oh! And a mahoosive thankyou to my followers, i hope i can post more of the posts you enjoy :)

Mollie's Musings: Spa Day!

Itinerary:
9:00am - arrive and receive complimentary drinks (including a mango and kiwi smoothie which was delish)
11:00am - time to experience my first facial
12:15pm - lunch consisting of food that could only have come from the gods
2:00pm - first ever back massage
3:05pm - yoga sesh

So my first day at a spa was rather good; i experienced my first ever facial and back massage. I was a little bit anxious about them as i thought it was going to be quite the awkward situation but the products that were used on my face smelled divine so i kind of forgot about how socially awkward i am as i drifted off with the meditation music. I also went to my first yoga class while i was there, albeit if i was without a companion who could laugh at my complete inability to balance. I had previously tried a pilates class but i always had the impression that yoga was more fun because you got to relax and unwind at the same time. I was certainly not disappointed and i loved how much the practice focuses on breathing and posture...of which i learnt that i really need to work on and stop hunching all the time haha.
All in all it was a good day and i definitely want to start doing more yoga in the future. I'd love to hear your stories of spa experiences or if any of you regularly do yoga or a practice with a similar theme,

Cover: Turning Page

Just a little post of a cover i did last month after being completely awestruck by this song from Sleeping At Last (who is frickin' immense live). I just wish i owned a piano because it actually sounds alright when i play it at school in a nice, echoed room...but that would mean singing in front of people...hows about no. So yeah, enjoy the clunky sounds of my keyboard with an appearance from my mischievous cat.
I may not be posting as often in coming days seen as i have two English exams next week which i really want to do well on so i can upkeep my nerd status, but tomorrow i am going to a spa with my mother (as it was one of my Christmas gifts) to relax and experience my first massage and facial, schnazzy.
In the mean time, i hope those of you going back to school / work soon have a good first day back :)

The Backs Of My Eyes Hum With Things I've Never Done

I have been wanting to hear the full version of this song ever since i heard it sampled on the Nikon advert and my ears were certainly not disappointed when i eventually found it whilst browsing tumblr blogs.

Welcome Home // Radical Face
I love the weaving of different sounds at the beginning with the use of guitars, echoing voices and a beautiful incorporation of chimes. The vocal differentiation is wonderful; during the verses the listener hears such an adorable, soft and folksy voice whereas the chorus exudes a full, harmonised sound which really creates a sense of belonging and takes my imagination to scenes of festival-goers enjoying the setting sun and living in the moment. For me, this song just has a positive 'right here, right now' feel to it, the same sort of effect as the tracks from The Temper Trap. Also, the lyric "the backs of my eyes hum with things i've never done" is such a lovely phrasing of an active mind and imagination which is just waiting to explore the world. I can't manage to believe that it came out two years ago. A teeny bit late on that one, eh Mols?
Aaaaand Happy New Year to everyone too!
