Girls

The brand spanking new second series of Girls began today and I am ecstatic, or something along the lines of extremely happy. The first series saw Hannah, an aspiring writer living in Brooklyn, navigate herself through the ins and outs of her and her friends everyday and often obscure dilemmas. Accompanied by her friends Marnie, Jessa and Shoshana, she attempts to unravel the unpredictable character that is her 'boyfriend' Adam. He is fucking hilarious. He is so completely incompetent and offbeat, like ridiculously offbeat, and is played perfectly by Adam Driver.
Lena Dunham, who plays Hannah and is head writer of the show, displays the prefect comic timing and writes about proper girl issues, not just showing glamourousness as in shows like Gossip Girl. And it's not like the obvious slapstick comedy, it's the kind of hidden comedy that I love.
Also, the show has just won a Golden Globe for 'Series, Musical or Comedy' and Lena won 'Actress, Musical or Comedy'. GET IN.
The soundtrack is awesome too.

MIGUEL

Kaleidoscope Dream is all I've been listening to recently. The album is a collation of a host of different music styles that blend to form a raw, intimate and soulful album from Miguel that presents a slight nod to retro. He particularly emphasises the intimacy of the record with many of the songs appearing as if he is singing directly to the listener, hence why he has an adoring legion of female fans. Not only producing songs about sensuality, Miguel also explores more raw issues. For example, Candles In The Sun is a track questioning today's social state, with the line "Say we're all created equal, that's what they teach us, but that ain't how we treat each other, truth is that we need each other". However, ever-present is the sense of psychedelia enveloping the melodies throughout. It's hard to choose favourites as the album as a whole is just hot stuff, and it clearly isn't just myself who thinks so as his multiple Grammy nominations would prove.
Enjoy this my friends, the live version is so so so good:

OMG we just started doing music from Les Miserables at band today, A$AP Rocky's album is out in three days and mum has bought a chocolate cake for tomorrow. AWESOME.

Les Misérables

I don't think you realise just how excited I am about this film. Aside from being a legendary musical, adapted from the French novel by Victor Hugo, the cast is amazing. Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried and my gorgeous darling Eddie Redmayne star, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen appearing as the Thenardiers, an extravagantly eccentric couple who suit both actors perfectly. If a film adaptation of one of the biggest musicals in the world wasn't enough of a challenge for the actors, the songs are all sung live on set. I personally think that this is a genius idea, especially considering the emotions involved with many of the characters, as it replaces the falseness of recording separate from the acting with a fragility that cannot be created in a studio. Props to Claude-Michel Schönberg who wrote the amazing music too.

Les Misérables, the show of shows, is now reborn as the cinematic musical experience of a lifetime. NINE DAYS PEOPLE. Oh my gosh, and The Great Gatsby is released this summer. I'll be back with more fanatical excitement when that comes around.

p.s. this 'Big Booby Bitchin' post is the best that I have read in a while. It's like my booby bible.

OMG HI!

Heeeere's Mollie.
How long has it been?! Since I've been gone, it has been pretty hectic...hence why I've been gone. I turned 17 at the beginning of December, had too much revision / school stuff to do and who can forget Christmas? I know, it's no excuse really, I hang my head in shame. I guess this is a bit of an update and a catch-up post.

So for ma burffday I didn't really have any celebration but I treated myself to a new piercing and got a ticket for Boardmasters WHICH I'M SO FREAKING EXCITED ABOUT. It's in Cornwall and last year Rudimental played there so I have my fingers crossed that they do this year too! For Christmas I was delighted to get a new digital piano. I've paid my dues with an electric keyboard for five years now so you can't say I haven't earned it. I was considering getting a new phone but, in the long term, a piano is much less transient than the phone which would be replaced within twelve months. Also, to improve my Francais, I received the book of Les Miserables, accompanied by the entertainment of My Week With Marilyn DVD just so I can imagine Eddie Redmayne as Marius in the film adaptation that I cannot wait for.

Not much else has happened other than I watched my boxset of the Harry Potter series and fell slightly more in love with Rupert Grint. Oh! Did you see the Victoria's Secret fashion show? I love seeing all the gorgeous sequinned lingerie, and obviously the models. My favourite is Candice but British favourite Cara Delvingne made an appearance this year too! I don't think there is any young girl who doesn't wish she could walk that catwalk one day. I loved Bruno Mars singing 'Young Girls' and Rihanna performing 'Fresh Off The Runway'.
