Modern Day Prehistoric

Stumbled across these two pictures and thought it was such a great way of representing nature and the way in which the Earth is built by it's former inhabitants. Das all.

Waste Land

With the World Cup in Brazil looming, there has been an innumerable amount of documentaries focusing on the South American country over the past few weeks. I've always been fascinated by Brazil but with this bombardment of images and information my interest has increased tenfold. The most recent of these is a documentary film titled Waste Land in which Brazilian artist Vik Muniz delves into the lives of the catadores (the pickers of recyclable materials) at a landfill called Jardim Gramacho near Rio de Janeiro.
Although the landfill was closed in 2012, the work of Tiaõ and the other members of the ACAMJG (Association of Recylcling Pickers of Jardim Gramacho) remains an exemplary model for Brazil's future plans for sustainable development.

By no means an art how-to, the film displays the capacity of people, no matter what their status may be, and the character that provides the inspiration for such masterpieces. The result of this exploration is not only these beautiful portraits made entirely from recyclable materials but a stirring film that displays the power of the human spirit and the promise of transformation.

Also, how gorgeous is the Portuguese language? I love it.

Sigur Ros - Fjögur Píanó

This video is so effing beautiful. Yes Shia adds to the beauty of it but the concept and incorporation of butterflies as a running theme just builds up a fascinating imagery for the simplistic, sombre piano melody. The leading characters played by Shia LaBeouf and Denna Thomsen are seemingly caught up in a destructive spiral fuelled by addiction and dependance.

The short film was written and directed by Alma Har'el as part of Sigur Rós Mystery Film Experiment in which a handful of filmmakers must create a video to one of the songs from the bands record, Valtari. The bassist, Georg Holm, describes the video perfectly, stating that "It seems to have no beginning and no end, and just makes you think about what might and might not be going on. It's a puzzle, and I think it's absolutely amazing."

Speaking of the symbolic meaning of the butterflies, Har'el says that they represent "very beautiful things that die very fast". Her concept of the film is based on "addiction to drugs, or sex, or anything – and how you get stuck in a cycle...For me, it’s about not knowing how to get out of something without causing pain to somebody else" says Har’el. "For other people it might be about candy and fish. I’m down with that."

Zombie Boy

Upon viewing the image below, i am pretty sure that most of you considered the thought that your computer / laptop / internet supplying device diverted you to the diary of an angst fuelled teenager as opposed to the sweet angelic blog that is musicandmollie but this notion leads to the moral message 'don't judge a book by its cover' which is exactly what my latest muse, Rick Genest, stands against. Within the past 58 minutes i have become obsessed with the star of the Born This Way video (aside from Lady Gaga, of course).
I am completely fascinated with Rico's view on the world, his opinion of what beauty is and his expressive tattoo body art. He states that

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that's what they say. It changes from person to person. Everybody has their own opinion, their own ideas of what beauty is. It's gotta come from the inside, it's gotta be personal and if you are true and genuine i find that's beauiful."

People with this level of creativity and such an open minded attitude influence me the most and i just find myself enveloped in a haze of endless thoughts whenever i see inspiring images of them or listen to them talk about matters of the world.
This is my favourite of Rick's work because of how powerful the message behind the film is, even if it is for a coverage product. I also think that the music accompanying the video is very much condusive to the strange beauty i find in it; i absolutely love this song by Zoo Brazil.

I guess this just solidifies my love of men with tattoos as i am finding myself cosiderably more and more attracted to 'Zombie Boy'...i don't know maybe it's a fetish. Anyway, what i do know is that Rick Genest is a person to whom i shall aspire to be like, most likely not with the tattoos, but in terms of his open minded atitude that involves no trace of conformity. Great, another guy to add to my list of 'dudes with tattoos that i rather like'.

Kay + Cole

No words. This piece of music and imagery is just too wonderful. Cole Mohr is my actual love and this video just solidifies that. The cutest version of 'Umbrella' is laced over this quirkily romantic montage and i love the imperfect quality to the video; as if to reflect the relationship between the two characters. With phone calls intertwined in the midst of a lovely piece of film, it really builds up emotions for the viewer to empathise. Have a listen for when Cole says
"Hey Juliet, it's Romeo. Umm, i love you. Bye."
because it actually melts my heart.
