Rewind: The Letter

Taking you all the way back to 1967, have a listen to The Letter performed by The Box Tops.

I first heard this song covered in an episode of Hellcats by the gorgeous Aly Michalka and instantly adored the meaning of the words and the swooning melody. However, i had not pursued the original version until i watched the 1960's film 'The Boat That Rocked' and discovered this beauty of a song. I am in adoration over the gravelly voice of the lead singer Alex Chilton; it's so endeering and has such a unique quality to it. Such a classic song.

Oh! And a mahoosive thankyou to my followers, i hope i can post more of the posts you enjoy :)

Mollie's Musings: Spa Day!

Itinerary:
9:00am - arrive and receive complimentary drinks (including a mango and kiwi smoothie which was delish)
11:00am - time to experience my first facial
12:15pm - lunch consisting of food that could only have come from the gods
2:00pm - first ever back massage
3:05pm - yoga sesh

So my first day at a spa was rather good; i experienced my first ever facial and back massage. I was a little bit anxious about them as i thought it was going to be quite the awkward situation but the products that were used on my face smelled divine so i kind of forgot about how socially awkward i am as i drifted off with the meditation music. I also went to my first yoga class while i was there, albeit if i was without a companion who could laugh at my complete inability to balance. I had previously tried a pilates class but i always had the impression that yoga was more fun because you got to relax and unwind at the same time. I was certainly not disappointed and i loved how much the practice focuses on breathing and posture...of which i learnt that i really need to work on and stop hunching all the time haha.
All in all it was a good day and i definitely want to start doing more yoga in the future. I'd love to hear your stories of spa experiences or if any of you regularly do yoga or a practice with a similar theme,

Cover: Turning Page

Just a little post of a cover i did last month after being completely awestruck by this song from Sleeping At Last (who is frickin' immense live). I just wish i owned a piano because it actually sounds alright when i play it at school in a nice, echoed room...but that would mean singing in front of people...hows about no. So yeah, enjoy the clunky sounds of my keyboard with an appearance from my mischievous cat.
I may not be posting as often in coming days seen as i have two English exams next week which i really want to do well on so i can upkeep my nerd status, but tomorrow i am going to a spa with my mother (as it was one of my Christmas gifts) to relax and experience my first massage and facial, schnazzy.
In the mean time, i hope those of you going back to school / work soon have a good first day back :)

The Backs Of My Eyes Hum With Things I've Never Done

I have been wanting to hear the full version of this song ever since i heard it sampled on the Nikon advert and my ears were certainly not disappointed when i eventually found it whilst browsing tumblr blogs.

Welcome Home // Radical Face
I love the weaving of different sounds at the beginning with the use of guitars, echoing voices and a beautiful incorporation of chimes. The vocal differentiation is wonderful; during the verses the listener hears such an adorable, soft and folksy voice whereas the chorus exudes a full, harmonised sound which really creates a sense of belonging and takes my imagination to scenes of festival-goers enjoying the setting sun and living in the moment. For me, this song just has a positive 'right here, right now' feel to it, the same sort of effect as the tracks from The Temper Trap. Also, the lyric "the backs of my eyes hum with things i've never done" is such a lovely phrasing of an active mind and imagination which is just waiting to explore the world. I can't manage to believe that it came out two years ago. A teeny bit late on that one, eh Mols?
Aaaaand Happy New Year to everyone too!
